A New Year, a New Mindset

A New year has arrived, and with it, there’s new hope, new dreams, new opportunities and a new mindset.

Our lives changed utterly last year in 2020, and with it, our mindset. Everything we knew and were used to changed in a matter of days. Life as we knew it disappeared.

It is important to remember this, so you know it is not your fault that these past months might have been one of the worst in your mental health and attitude towards your goals.

You can’t control what’s happening

What’s happening around us isn’t something we can control. We can’t control what others say or do, but we do have a say in how we react towards that. This is easier to write and say than to practice, but when you do, everything changes.

What I love about the New Year is that it gives us a sense of a fresh start. Although when you think about it, it is just another day in your life.

You can start achieving whatever goal you have no matter the day, but there is something special about starting the year, implementing new plans, and working on them, even if that something special is just our minds telling you.

Give your mindset a new opportunity

You must know what your mindset is. Your mindset is your collection of thoughts and beliefs that shape your thought habits.

Your mindset is everything. It affects the way you think and act. Like I said before, all we can do in situations like this is to strengthen our mindsets.

If you haven’t had the best mindset in the past years, don’t beat yourself up because of it. I have great news, and that is that your mindset can be changed.

Work on your mindset

Everyone’s way of improving and changing their mindset looks different., but there are some general things you can do to improve your perspective and way of seeing life.

1.) Keep a journal

Keeping a journal has helped me a lot in organizing my thoughts and ideas. Make journaling a part of your daily routine. I always journal before going to bed, and it helped me so much as I can see what I have done and what I will do in the future.

2.) Do something you like

This looks different for everyone. For some, it can be to take 1 hour a day to cook; for others, it can be to practice an instrument, and for others, it can be to read a book. The important thing is that you take some time to do something that you enjoy doing.

3.) Plan your future while living your today

Maybe now you can’t work on your most significant goal, but don’t let that stop you from working on small steps and doing other things that make you happy. I am not a fan of the type of mindset that incites people to only think about the future and what they could do someday.

You need to live today because you are not granted tomorrow. I love to think about the future because d it gives me hope that someday things could be better, but I try to make the best out of the time I have now.

Work on something that will prepare you for what you want to do later on. Just do something. Don’t get stuck waiting for the future. Every small step counts toward success.

4.) Maintain strong and healthy relationships

This is REALLY hard right now. Many of us haven’t been able to hug our family and friends in an extended amount of time. Some people are entirely alone, and many relationships are falling apart.

Strong and healthy relationships are essential to happy living. Keep in touch with the people you love through messages or video calls. Write them a letter, send them a gift, be creative. The important thing is to let others know that you are there for them. Hopefully, they appreciate you the same way you appreciate them, and it will keep that relationship alive.

Conclusion

You can do better this year and you can do what you want to achieve. You are capable, but to see all of this, you need the right mindset.

There are many things you can do to work on your mindset. You can find inspiration from other people through reading, going to a psychologist, having a therapist, and many more things.

This is the perfect moment for you to start working on your mental health; you don’t have to wait for tomorrow. Prioritize it. Be actively taking care of it. Have the right mindset, and you will see how things will begin to look better.
