Test prep

ACT English and Reading Prep

Take a timed practice test, see the right answer and the reason for every question, and then play the review game to lock it in.

Two sections to practice

Both follow the current ACT: four answer choices, no penalty for guessing, and a score from 1 to 36 for each section.

English

The real test: 50 questions in 35 minutes, about 42 seconds each. You edit passages and answer questions about how they are written.

Skills scored: Production of Writing (purpose, organization, transitions), Knowledge of Language (concision and style), and Conventions of Standard English (punctuation, usage, sentence structure).

In the tool: 25 original questions on three passages.

Reading

The real test: 36 questions in 40 minutes, about 67 seconds each, across four passages with nine questions apiece.

Skills scored: Key Ideas and Details (main ideas, details, inferences), Craft and Structure (word meaning, purpose, point of view), and Integration of Knowledge and Ideas (claims, evidence, connections).

In the tool: 18 original questions on two passages, one literary and one humanities essay.

How the practice works

1. Pick a mode

Take a full section, or practice just one passage when you have ten minutes.

2. Beat the clock

A timer runs at the real ACT pace. You can finish early, run over, or leave questions blank and come back.

3. Learn from your score

See your score, your pace, a rough score range, a bar for each skill, tips for your two weakest skills, and the right answer and reason for every question.

The review game: Million-Point Climb

Climb a 15-question ladder from 100 to 1,000,000 play points, with questions getting harder as you go. Pick English, Reading, or a mix. Use 50/50, Phone a (fake) Friend, Ask the Audience, or Swap the Question when you’re stuck, or walk away with what you have. Safe spots at questions 5 and 10 keep your points when you miss. Every answer comes with a reason, so you learn even when you lose.

Test-day habits

Answer every question, because a wrong answer costs nothing. Mark the hard ones and come back to them. Keep an eye on the clock: about 42 seconds per English question and about 67 seconds per Reading question.
